Location QR Code Generator

A location QR code holds map coordinates. When someone scans it, their phone opens its map app with a pin already dropped and directions ready to start.

Set by the map above, or type coordinates in directly.

This type is always static. A location code carries its data inside the pattern rather than pointing at a web page, so there is nothing to redirect and nothing to edit later. It works offline and never expires. To track scans instead, use a Website code pointing at a page with these details.

When to use a location QR code

  • Shop windows and signage, so people walking past can find you again later
  • Wedding and party invitations, where the venue is hard to describe
  • Delivery instructions on a gate or door for hard-to-find entrances
  • Event posters, market stalls and pop-ups that move around

Before you print

Drop the pin where people should actually arrive

The street address and the entrance are often not the same place. If your door is round the back, or the car park is on a different road, move the pin there. This is the difference between someone finding you and someone giving up.

Scan it yourself before you print it

Open the code on your own phone and follow the directions from a few streets away. It takes five minutes and catches a wrong pin before a thousand flyers do.

Add the address in text too

Some older phones will not open a map from a code. A line of plain text under it costs nothing and saves the person who cannot scan.

Common questions

Does a location QR code work with Google Maps and Apple Maps?

Yes. The code uses the standard geo format, so each phone opens whichever map app it normally uses. iPhones usually open Apple Maps, Android phones usually open Google Maps.

Can I use a business name instead of coordinates?

The code stores coordinates, which is more reliable than a name. Names can match the wrong branch or a business that has closed. You can add a label so the pin shows your name when it opens.

Does it need internet to work?

Scanning works offline, but the map itself needs a connection to load. Most phones have one outdoors, which is where these codes usually live.
